Enhancing What We Already Have:
Inspiring Stories and Strategies from Around the World for Harvesting Free On-Site Resources such as Water, Sun, Shade, Food, Fertility, and Community

This presentation shares universal principles and practices that turn water scarcity into water abundance, floods into opportunity, and wastes into fertility. The key is creative cycling and utilization of what is already at hand. We begin with simple and effective strategies that can be used at home, then move to the street, the neighborhood, the village or city, and the rural broadacre environment.
Rainwater-, greywater-, stormwater-, and condensate-harvesting strategies from the southwestern U.S., Middle East, and Italy will be shared. Examples include how once-dying wetlands and creek flows are being regenerated with simple hand-built structures made of on-site materials; how ancient rainwater cisterns are being rediscovered and rehabilitated to again hydrate people and farms of today; and how greenbelts of water, wildlife, food, and celebration are being generated by planting once-drained stormwater, seed, and organic matter.
This talk is both an invitation for you to engage and partner with your natural surroundings and community, and a treasure map showing you the way—by planting the rain, dancing with the sun, growing fertile shade, and more to live as one of your community’s inspirational sparks!
There will be lots of time afterwards for questions and discussion. It’s a good opportunity to explore this very critical topic to us in Zimbabwe.
Please RSVP to John Wilson if you plan on attending so he knows how many people to expect, and please feel free to spread this around your email/internet contacts to others who might like to come.
Directions: Coming out of town on Sam Nujoma Ave (former 2nd Street extension), turn right just beyond the junction with Churchill Ave into Upper East Road. About 200-300 metres along Upper East turn right into the Ministry of Education complex and the Education Centre is on the left. There will be a PELUM Association banner on display outside.
