This event recognizes the role the acequias play in the growing of food in the community and honors those who take care of the water – the mayordomo – and those that grow the food.
El evento reconoce la importancia de las acequias en la cosecha de comida en la comunidad y honra a esos que cuidan del agua – el mayordomo – y los granjeros
que la cosechan.
There will be an acequia photography exhibit, live music, and a variety of speakers, to include chef/writer Lois Ellen Frank on Seeds of Health: Using traditional heirloom foods of the past for health and wellness in the future, Dr José Rivera of the University of New Mexico on The Culture of Ayuda Mutua in the Río Arriba, author/integrated regenerative systems consultant Brad Lancaster on water harvesting, Dr. Enrique Lamadrid on Roots of Acequia Culture in Northern Mexico, Catherine Harris on Nomadic Infrastructural Art: Foodshed, Watershed, and Field Explorations in the American Southwest, and several others.  The weekend will wrap up with a hands-on water-harvesting workshop led by Brad Lancaster.
Brad’s talk, Beneficial Ruins and Water Webs: A Vernacular Design Challenge to Increase the Resilience of Dryland Ecologies and Human Communities, is scheduled for 11 am on Sunday, June 12, to be followed by a hands-on workshop.
