DESCRIPTION:.\n. \nWater for Every Farm:\n EARTHWORKS FOR RESILIENCY IN AN ERA OF DROUGHT\n April 5-8\, 2017\nIn collaboration with Lush Cosmetics\, join international educator Warren Brush\, with a dynamic teaching team including Brad Lancaster as well as Brenton Kelly of Quail Springs Permaculture\, at Jalisco Jojoba Farm in Hyder\, Arizona. Learn about earthworks and hydration strategies for ecological farming\, land restoration\, water harvesting\, and earth reparation for agro-ecosystem stability with a focus on dryland applications.\n\nWorldwide\, topsoil erosion averages 30 to 40 tons per hectare (2.5 acres) per year\, which is 30- to 40- times faster than the replacement rate of topsoil. Rain gardens and other small-scale water-harvesting earthworks are legal in Colorado and always have been—and they don’t cost any more than the price of a shovel. These rain-garden earthworks quickly infiltrate rainfall into the soil—where less moisture is lost to evaporation—while also reducing erosion. Living ‘pumps’ of vegetation then enable us the access that water. Now that Coloradans can legally harvest rainwater in tanks\, too\, we’ll show you how to integrate your tanks with your rain gardens to get the biggest bang for your buck.
