Gaia’s Garden: A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture, by Toby Hemenway. Chelsea Green Publishing Company, 2001. While not dryland-specific, this book clearly describes how you can work the integrated design of permaculture into your backyard garden and landscape.

Permaculture: Principles and Pathways Beyond Sustainability, by David Holmgren. Holmgren Design Services, 2002. A more cerebral and very worthwhile book based on the co-originator of permaculture’s extensive practical experience offering a deeper understanding of permaculture concepts.
