This book was made possible by a partnership between the U.S. State Department in Amman, Jordan; Jordanian publishing house Al Ahlia Publishing; and Brad Lancaster.
The story of this Arabic edition of Volume 1 began when the U.S. State Department sent Brad Lancaster and David Eisenberg (DCAT) on a very well-received Earth Day-themed speaking and cultural-exchange tour of Jordan and Saudi Arabia in 2009. Brad focused on water issues, water harvesting, and regenerative integrated design. David focused on green, natural, and integrated building, and how to change codes, policy, and practice to forward these approaches.
The trip was an incredible experience, and Brad and David learned an immense amount from their amazing hosts; ancient water-harvesting sites, farms, and cities; and the inspiring people and organizations they visited who are making positive change in related fields throughout the Middle East.
Water harvesting runs deep throughout the history of the entire region, and a resurgence is underway.
